    Sustainable finance at Triodos: An ESG decision

    This case invites students to conduct a simplified ESG analysis and portfolio decision from the perspective of an impact investor at Triodos Investment Management. Acting as research analyst candidates, they assess Yamaha, Tesla, and Philip Morris using Triodos’s ESG approach, weighing positive and negative impacts on people and the planet. Students decide whether to invest, invest with engagement, or exclude each company, testing their ability to integrate ESG criteria, balance controversy against innovation, and align financial judgment with Triodos’s mission. How should an impact investor decide?
