Redefine the leader you are

AI, geopolitical shifts, and continuous disruption have fundamentally reshaped what leadership demands. Authority is no longer secured by position alone – it is earned through judgment, clarity, and the ability to act decisively when the path forward is unclear.

Leading for High Impact is an immersive 4.5-day program for senior leaders operating under greater scrutiny, broader mandates, and rising expectations. You’ll strengthen how you lead when situations are complex, stakes are significant, and clear answers are rarely available.

The program addresses what keeps leaders up at night: leading through constant disruption, building alignment in fragmented systems, and sustaining authenticity under pressure. You’ll confront what you tend to avoid, close the gap between who you are and who you can become, and fundamentally transform how you show up, relate, and lead.

Most programs create insight; few create sustained change. Through psychometric assessment, expert one-on-one and small group coaching, powerful practices like role biography, and peer support, Leading for High Impact turns insight into shifts that stick.

At the core of the program is the Five Leadership Muscles framework – a practical architecture for expanding your leadership capacity as complexity rises. You will strengthen five critical capabilities: awareness to read situations with greater accuracy, sensemaking to create clarity amid ambiguity, role agility to adapt as contexts demand, mindful agency to replace reactivity with intentional action, and integration to balance competing tensions without losing focus.

You’ll leave with stronger executive presence, sharper judgment under pressure, and practical frameworks to energize yourself and mobilize others, drive momentum, and lead with confidence in uncertain environments. Discover the program content.

Deepen self-awareness

Discover what drives you, what holds you back, and how your patterns shape the way you show up as a leader. Through self-exploration activities and expert coaching, build the foundation to lead with intention and authenticity.

Lead with conviction

Earn authority through clarity, timely decisions, and steadfastness. Build the presence to make decisive calls when answers aren’t obvious – creating leadership that is respected, not just wished for.

Navigate difficult relationships

Master the interpersonal dynamics that make or break execution. Read the unspoken signals others miss, turn what you tend to avoid into productive dialogue, and manage up and down effectively.

Lead across the organization

Elevate from leading your function to leading at the enterprise level. Make conscious choices about how you lead across the organization, manage trade-offs, and use your presence to create momentum in complex stakeholder systems.

Build five leadership muscles

Develop five core capabilities that will sustain and empower your leadership throughout your career – muscles that, with continued practice, will strengthen your impact with every challenge you encounter.

Program content

Leading for High Impact develops your leadership capacity through a carefully designed journey of self-exploration, expert coaching, and experiential learning that creates shifts – not just insights.

Preparation
4 weeks before start

Set the foundation for transformation:

  • Complete a psychometric assessment to illuminate your leadership patterns, strengths, and blind spots.
  • Reflect on your current role and the challenges that most define your leadership today.
  • Engage in a 75-minute one-on-one conversation with an IMD Learning Manager to explore your assessment results, clarify your developmental priorities, and prepare for meaningful growth.

This pre-work ensures you step into the program with focus, clarity, and openness to change.

Build your five leadership muscles
4.5 days on campus (Singapore)

Day 1: Building awareness

  • Examine your leadership foundation by exploring four essential levers: boundaries, authority, roles, and purpose.
  • Work in small coached groups to examine how these levers shape the way you lead.
  • Develop your ability to notice what’s happening beneath the surface in conversations and steer interactions more effectively.

Day 2: Sensemaking

  • Explore the hidden dynamics that shape groups and teams through video-based observation and coached debriefs.
  • See clearly how collective behavior influences you and how you shape the groups you lead.
  • Make sense of the forces that shape organizations and systems under ambiguity and pressure.
  • Learn how different perspectives drive behavior and how anxiety fuels the patterns leaders encounter daily.

Day 3: Mindful agency

  • Revisit Day 2 dynamics through the lens of anxiety and its consequences, learning to act with awareness, foresight, and judgment.
  • Apply real-world case studies that reveal how fragmentation, politics, and competing interests influence leaders’ actions.
  • Map the dynamics of your own leadership context and begin building the bridge to adapting in role.

Day 4: Role agility

  • Work with your psychometric data to differentiate between you as a person and you in a role.
  • Understand when to step forward, step back, create proximity, or create distance.
  • Explore your role biography, examining the narratives and routines that have shaped your leadership.
  • Question which patterns still serve you and which must evolve.

Day 5: Integration
 (Half-day)

  • Develop the capability to hold tension between inner and outer demands, optimism and caution, authenticity and adaptation.
  • Learn to use vulnerability as strength and release what no longer serves your leadership.
  • Consolidate the insights, practices, and shifts that have emerged throughout the week.

Throughout your time on campus, you will work closely with expert coaches in small home groups that offer real-time observations and insights to help you interpret your experiences and turn them into lasting change.

Follow-up coaching
Post-program support over 4 weeks
  • A small group coaching session (2.5h) to share your progress and sustain momentum.
  • An individual coaching call (1h) to ensure you’re making shifts that stick and chart your next horizon of growth and leading with impact.

Meet the Program Director
