IMD is delighted to announce Georg Guttmann as Affiliate Professor of Corporate Governance and Strategy, as of 1 February.

A recognized expert at the intersection of governance research and boardroom practice, Guttmann closely collaborates with chairs, non-executive directors, and executive committees of large Swiss and European companies.

“I’m excited to join IMD at a time when the role of boards is becoming both more demanding and more consequential. I look forward to working with chairs, board members, and colleagues to explore how effective governance can help companies navigate difficult dilemmas and create positive, long-term impact,” shared Guttmann.

His work focuses on advancing the professionalization of boards, helping them move beyond compliance to become strategic partners for CEOs and executive teams. He supports boards in enhancing governance practices, improving decision-making, and navigating complex boardroom dynamics in environments shaped by rapid change, technological innovation, and uncertainty.

“We are very happy that Georg Guttmann is joining IMD as Affiliate Professor of Corporate Governance and Strategy. He is an outstanding educator, a leading expert in governance, and his reputation helps IMD further grow its presence in the DACH region and beyond,” said Professor of Management and Dean of Faculty and Research Stefan Michel.

Before joining IMD, he worked at the University of St. Gallen as Assistant Professor of International Corporate Governance and Founding Director of the St. Gallen Board Programs.

At IMD, he will teach across degree and executive programs and will serve, among other roles, as Program Director of IMD’s Certificate in Board Governance. In the classroom, he focuses on sharpening judgment and fostering peer learning among experienced leaders, creating settings where participants explore the skills, mindsets, and behaviors required for effective board service.
