Certificate in Board Governance (CAS)
Certify your governance expertise for tomorrow’s boardrooms
You’ve spent your career mastering executive leadership. Now you’re ready to contribute at board level, in Switzerland or Europe. Stepping into these boardrooms not only requires a solid command of the fundamentals of governance, but fluency in the regional standards: the regulatory landscape, the ownership structures, the financial frameworks, and the networks that influence every decision.
That’s where the Certificate in Board Governance comes in. Designed around Swiss governance standards, it builds both the foundational board capabilities and the regional insight that defines board-ready leaders.
Over five immersive modules in Lausanne, Zurich and Basel, you’ll work through real board cases, engage with experienced chairs and directors, and strengthen your understanding of core governance duties – from oversight and risk to finance, strategy, and board effectiveness – all within the Swiss and European context.
Throughout your journey, you’ll refine your board identity with executive search guidance, build a compelling board CV, and strengthen your visibility with the people who influence appointments. You’ll also learn alongside a carefully selected cohort, building relationships that support you well beyond the classroom.
By the end, you will have earned an internationally recognized 10-ECTS CAS, fostered a trusted network, and crafted a unique board USP that sets you apart.
Program Directors
The Program Directors will be joined by experienced board members and leading governance practitioners serving as guest speakers.
Georg Guttmann
Affiliate Professor of Corporate Governance and Strategy (as of February 2026)
Georg Guttmann’s research and teaching explore how boards shape corporate governance and strategic leadership. He advises chairs and directors on enhancing boardroom effectiveness and driving responsible, forward-looking governance across a variety of ownership types and organizational contexts.
“Today’s board members face a convergence of pressures. Geopolitical shifts, technological innovation, changing regulations, and growing scrutiny from investors and other stakeholders define their environment. Understanding these forces and learning from real boardroom experiences helps incoming directors exercise informed and responsible governance in an increasingly competitive landscape.”
Ines Pöschel
Executive Fellow
Ines Pöschel is a renowned governance expert with extensive experience as a non-executive director in listed and non-listed companies across industries. Combining her board education and advisory work with a legal background in corporate law, M&A, capital markets, and board liability, she strengthens board judgment on deals, risk, and governance.
“Moving from an executive role into a board role requires a fundamental mindset shift: nose in but hands off, asking versus answering, challenging while supporting, understanding the owners’ perspectives, and being mindful of the dynamics in the boardroom. New board members grow into the role by developing the judgment and skill sets that strengthen their impact on decision-making.”
