Case B focuses on the personal and professional leadership challenges facing Andrea Muccioli, as he takes the helm of San Patrignano in 1995 following the death of his father, Vincenzo. This case describes the successful start-up of a number of business ventures in the Community under Andrea’s leadership, which helped reduce its dependence on private donors. For example, by 1999 the wine producing and exporting venture alone was generating US$ 5 million per year, which was the total of all revenues in 1995.

Chugai (B): Alliance with Roche to be among the best

With traditional solutions proving insufficient, Sava proposes a radical strategy: pivoting from being a direct IT provider to an orchestrator of a platform ecosystem. The case challenges participants to map the practical steps necessary to build the ecosystem from the ground up by learning how to create trust with skeptical clients, internal teams and wary partners in the high-stakes fintech sector.
