January 2024

We are thrilled to announce that IMD has won gold in the Immersive Experiential Learning category at the QS Reimagine Education Awards for its XR 360 AR Learning Theatre Experience – SpheriCO2. The award is a testament to the impact we have had on executive education by leveraging cutting-edge technologies.

The SpheriCO2 experience uses game mechanisms and augmented reality (AR) to create a dynamic, interactive, and immersive learning environment to enhance critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership skills. It’s the first time that augmented reality and a 360-degree projection room have been combined to deliver a learning experience, highlighting the project’s innovative nature. First unveiled at Orchestrating Winning Performance (OWP) in Singapore in 2023, SpheriCO2 has since been implemented in Lausanne.

“This prestigious award highlights our commitment to shaping the future of management education,” said IMD President David Bach. “By harnessing cutting-edge technologies like augmented reality and championing experiential learning, we are improving and innovating our participants’ experiences, ensuring they are equipped with the skills needed to lead in an increasingly complex and digital world.”

The annual Reimagine Education Awards honors pioneering pedagogical approaches that boost learning outcomes and employability for future learners worldwide through the lens of sustainability.

In addition to the gold award, other IMD initiatives were also recognized. The Enterprise for Society Center (E4S) – our joint initiative with The University of Lausanne (UNIL-HEC) and the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) – was shortlisted for The Power of Partnerships award. IMD’s Well-Being Month, led by its HR team in September, was shortlisted for the Nurturing Well-being and Purpose category.

IMD submissions were evaluated by a panel of 1,300-plus international expert judges from over 1,300 entries.
