IMD EMBAs rewarded for outstanding business cases on LinkedIn Learning and the Apple Watch

EMBAs recognized in international case competition
January 2017

Two teams of IMD EMBA participants recently won awards in the 2017 John Molson MBA International Case competition.

The IMD case: ”Will LinkedIn Learning Disrupt the Education Landscape?” took 2nd place in the competition and was authored by IMD EMBA participants Maxim Kolesnik, Mario Perez, and Dominik Reinhard, under the supervision of IMD Professor and EMBA Dean Stefan Michel.

The second IMD case awarded in the competition was titled ”Is the Apple Watch Killing the Swiss Watch Industry?” and took 5th place. The case was written by IMD EMBAs Chantal Staeuble, Lars Bloechlinger, and Kristian Uwe Curkovic, also under the supervision of Stefan Michel.

The competition is a not-for-profit event organized by the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. It is open to top business schools worldwide, and is recognized as the largest case competition of its kind. Its main purpose is to bridge the gap between corporate and academic worlds, which ultimately enriches both students and executives alike.

“This is a most excellent outcome of a bold experiment initiated by Professor Stefan Michel and the EMBA team. Double congratulations to Stefan and the case writers, therefore, not just for winning the double awards, but also for mobilizing the EMBA team to set up a case-writing pipeline that has proved to be award-winning right from the start!,” said Anand Narasimhan, IMD’s Dean of Faculty and Research and Development.

In addition to business case writing, other unique features of IMD’s EMBA program include an intensive crisis management module with the Swiss Armed Forces and Discovery expeditions to Silicon Valley, Brazil, China, India, and elsewhere.
