Microsoft has made AI central to its strategy under CEO Satya Nadella, declaring a new “age of AI” and prioritizing trustworthy innovation. In 2024, a new Chief AI Transformation Officer role was developed to lead AI initiatives across its Customer and Partner Solutions group. In January 2025, Microsoft created a new engineering division, Core AI Platform and Tools, to unite AI teams and accelerate development of its AI stack.
AI is embedded across Microsoft’s product ecosystem through Copilot®. In June 2025, LinkedIn’s CEO assumed responsibility for its Office Product teams to accelerate the rollout of AI features across Outlook, Word, Excel, and other productivity applications. Microsoft pairs this growth with a strong Responsible AI framework grounded in six ethical principles: fairness, safety, privacy, inclusivity, transparency, and accountability. It has also implemented governance measures, such as transparency reporting, AI ethics committees, and compliance standards.
