IMD business school for management and leadership courses

Alibaba Group made AI a central pillar of its growth strategy and backed it with decisive action, committing RMB 380bn (over $50bn) in early 2025 to AI and cloud infrastructure upgrades. This C-suite mandate restructured the company around an AI + Cloud model, with key leadership roles, such as Alibaba Cloud’s CTO, focused on accelerating AI innovation.

On the technology front, Alibaba built a robust AI foundation and launched breakthrough products. Its cloud unit open-sourced the Qwen™ large language model family and rolled out a suite of generative AI services, including content creation tools and an AI developer assistant. To sustain momentum, the company invested heavily in talent, hiring thousands of AI specialists and upskilling its workforce to create an AI-ready culture. Alibaba also formed a Technology Ethics Committee, adopted governance frameworks, and launched “AI for Good” initiatives, from climate modeling to healthcare tools like the PANDA™ cancer screening platform.
