Peter Wuffli


Chairman of IMD Foundation and Supervisory Boards


Peter Wuffli chairs the Foundation and Supervisory Boards of Lausanne-based business school IMD and he is Chairman of the philanthropic impact investor elea Foundation for Ethics in Globalization that he established together with his wife in 2006. In addition, he is Vice Chairman of the Board of the Zurich Opera House.

From 1984 to 1993 he worked for McKinsey & Company as a management consultant where he became a Partner and member of the Swiss office leadership team in 1990. In 1994 he joined the Swiss Bank Corporation (today UBS) as Chief Financial Officer. Following the merger of the Swiss Bank Corporation and the Union Bank of Switzerland in 1998, he continued to serve as Chief Financial Officer until 1999 when he became Chairman and CEO of UBS Global Asset Management. From 2001 he was President and from 2003 onwards Group CEO of UBS until his resignation in 2007. From 2009 to 2019, he was Member of the Board of Directors of Partners Group Holding AG, a leading global private markets investment management company based in Zug (Switzerland) listed at the Swiss Stock Exchange. Between 2014 and 2018, he served as its Chairman and during the term 2018/19 as its Vice Chairman and Lead Independent Director.

In 1984 Peter Wuffli obtained a PhD in economics from the University of St. Gallen with a dissertation on Swiss direct investments in Mexico. Since then he has been interested in themes around globalization, ethics and leadership. He authored two books on such topics: Liberale Ethik – Orientierungsversuch im Zeitalter der Globalisierung (Stämpfli Verlag, 2010, german only), and Inclusive Leadership – A Framework for the Global Era (Springer, 2016).

Peter Wuffli lives in Zürich, is married and has three adult children.
