The business school received an overall score of 67, placing it in the top five percent of education institutions evaluated.
Founded in 2007, EcoVadis is the world’s most trusted provider of business sustainability evaluations and has assessed more than 100,000 companies across 175 countries. The organization rates companies’ policies, actions, and reporting across the four dimensions of the environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.
The institute’s score increased by eight points from 2021, demonstrating year-over-year progress and elevating its medal level from silver to gold.
“IMD is committed to walking the sustainability talk and to continuous improvement,” says Natalia Olynec, Head of Sustainability.
IMD’s sub-score in the labor and human rights area, which is weighted most heavily for education and training enterprises, increased from 60 to 70, driving the overall score increase. The environment sub-score also increased from 60 to 70.
“Our enhanced HR policies stand out for being socially progressive, family-friendly, and attentive to equity, diversity, and inclusion. In the environment area, our calculation of Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions is a major accomplishment,” says Olynec.

Analyzing the results of the assessment in detail reveals that IMD’s new sustainability practices and policies in the areas of ‘Environment’ and ‘Labor and Human Rights’ had a significant positive impact. The measurement and reporting of IMD’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 Greenhouse Gas emissions for the first time this year has paved the way for specific actions to reduce IMD’s carbon footprint in the future.
IMD recognizes the value of external assessments because they help the institution to identify its strengths and weaknesses. IMD continues to improve its sustainability standards and practices and prepares to be assessed annually by third parties such as Ecovadis.
