The most valuable insight I gained from this class is that family communication operates on multiple levels (governance, emotion and identity), and that clarity comes when parties recognize which level is in play. The program’s strength is its holistic approach — it addresses the architecture of governance while also revealing the underlying family and interpersonal dynamics that ultimately determine whether or not these structures succeed. This perspective is especially relevant in an emerging markets context where formal governance structures are still maturing, and family legacy can play an outsized role in shaping business continuity and resilience.
The structure and conduct of this program allows for a lot of honest and transparent sharing with other families in a safe space, whilst at the same time facilitating healthy, thought provoking conversations amongst family members.
