Tencent’s CEO declared AI a top strategic focus, noting the company reorganized its AI teams for rapid product innovation and deep model R&D, and ramped up AI-related R&D and capital spending to drive growth. In May 2025, Tencent’s leadership created new AI-focused units as part of a reorganization – establishing a Large Language Model Department and a Multimodal Model Department to accelerate its AI deployment. 

Tencent tripled capital expenditures to expand data centers and computing capacity for large-model training. Its flagship Hunyuan large language model advanced rapidly, powering the Yuanbao™ AI assistant within WeChat and adding generative AI features to Tencent Meeting and advertising, boosting both user experience and business efficiency. The company also launched its largest AI hiring program, recruiting thousands of R&D roles. Committed to responsible AI, Tencent strengthened data security measures and collaborated globally on governance standards.
