Target expanded its use of AI across stores, e-commerce, merchandising, supply chain, and operations. For example, Target introduced an AI-powered Store Companion™ chatbot (piloted at 400 stores and expanding to around 2,000 by summer 2024) on store handhelds to answer process questions and coach team members. On its website, GenAI enriches product pages by summarizing reviews, refining descriptions, and powers guided search tools for more personalized discovery.

Internally, AI supports logistics and planning with AI/ML helping to reduce excess inventory by improving forecasting and replenishment decisions. It is also piloting automation with robotic sortation in its distribution centers.
