Rosemary Leith Berners-Lee and Marc Carena were elected to the IMD Foundation Board at its meeting on 21 May 2026 and will formally assume their positions on 1 January 2027.
Leith Berners-Lee is a board director and advisor with deep expertise in technological innovation and corporate governance. She currently serves as board director at Proton AG, ICG Plc and BAFTA, and is based in London. She is also a senior advisor to Universal Quantum, SandboxAQ and The Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) as well as a fellow of Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society (BKC). Previously, she was an advisory board member at the University of Oxford’s Wolfson College and at Queen’s University, Canada.

Carena is a recognized global business leader who has held senior roles across four continents. As Global President of Mars Petcare, he leads the $30bn+ pet care segment of Mars, Incorporated, which provides veterinary care, nutrition, and diagnostics, with operations in over 130 countries. With more than 25 years of international leadership experience, he has held senior executive roles at McDonald’s, Nestlé and Metro Group. He is also a board member of AIM, the European Brands Association.

The IMD Foundation Board is composed of more than 50 distinguished global members from business, academia, and alumni communities.
As IMD’s highest governing body, the Foundation Board plays a vital role in shaping the institution’s long-term strategic direction and ensuring its continued relevance in a rapidly changing world. Working closely with the Supervisory Board, it provides oversight and guidance to help IMD meet the evolving needs of business and society. Together, the Foundation Board and Supervisory Board comprise key stakeholders, including CEOs from companies with deep learning collaborations, leaders of academic institutions, alumni, and a faculty representative.
