IMD launches call for nominations for 2023 IMD Global Family Business Award

February 2023

The search begins for the 2023 winner of the prestigious accolade as IMD looks for suggestions for family businesses that are worthy of the IMD Global Family Business Award, supported by award partners Chopard and the Family Business Network.

The IMD Global Family Business Award recognizes excellence in the art of building and managing a successful, sustainable and well-governed family-owned enterprise. Since its launch 27 years ago, the award has developed a reputation as the most sought-after prize in the field of family business. It offers a valuable opportunity for families to share and tap into the best practices from around the world.

In 2022, diversified family enterprise Carvajal took the crown. The award’s independent jury praised the Colombia-based company for its strong focus on good governance, next generation development, sustainability, and social impact.

Nominations are now open until 31 March for the 2023 award. Anyone can nominate a family business, and businesses can also nominate themselves.

To enter, nominated businesses must have reached the third generation of family succession, they must have an international presence, and turnover of at least $0.5 billion every year.

“We look forward to this year’s nominations for the IMD Global Family Business Award,” says Award Director, and Director of the IMD Global Family Business Center, Professor Peter Vogel.

The IMD Global Family Business Award is considered one of the highest recognition of achievement in the field of family and we are already curious to see who will win this year.”

Once the date for applications has closed, the award jury – comprising former winners and academic experts in the field of family business – will conduct a review of all nominations. They will be looking at a range of criteria, including family values, governance, cohesion between family and business interests, tradition, innovation and social impact.

The winner will be announced at the FBN Global Summit in Paris, France between 8 and 11 November 2023.

A selection of previous winners includes (in alphabetical order): Ayala – Barilla – Bavaria – Bel – Bonnier – Brown-Forman – Carvajal – Dachser – De Agostini Group – Firmenich – Grundfos – Henkel – Hermès – Jebsen & Jessen – JM Huber – Lego – Merck – Murugappa – Pentland Group plc – Puig – Roca – SC Johnson – Votorantim – Yazaki – Zegna.
