Leading family enterprise platform  Family Capital has selected Professor of Family Business and Entrepreneurship Peter Vogel and Alfredo De Massis, intellectual contributor at the Wild Chair in Family Business, among the top 100 academics in the world of family enterprises.

Readers of Family Capital praised Vogel, also the Debiopharm Chair for Family Philanthropy and the Director of IMD’s Global Family Business Center as “one of the leading lights in his field” and for bringing “a zeal to the family enterprise sector like few others.”

“He has more than established himself as a leader among the new group of outstanding family enterprise academics now at the forefront of their craft,” Family Capital wrote. “In league with IMD’s highly entrepreneurial ethos, Vogel has combined his theoretical expertise with his real-world entrepreneurial skills – some years ago, he set up a venture fund – to give unique insights into how family enterprises can better deal with disruptive forces they face today.”

De Massis, an award-winning expert in the management and governance of family enterprises with a particular focus on understanding how family business leaders make key decisions, was nominated for how “his thought leadership has influenced the shaping of the field.”

“De Massis has gained an increasing reputation as one of the new family enterprise academics of note. His thinking and expertise in the sector are more in demand than ever, and he is one of the most published academics on his subject,” Family Capital wrote.

As well as writing seven books, including the Handbook of Qualitative Research Methods for Family Business and Family Business Studies: An Annotated Bibliography, De Massis has published dozens of articles, six of which were selected in March 2018 by the International Family Enterprise Research Academy among the most influential recent articles on family firms worldwide.

The Family 100 influencers list is created from a survey of Family Capital readers and celebrates the leading changemakers in the family enterprise world.

IMD was the first business school to offer executive education to business-owning families, pioneering its “Leading the Family Business” (LFB) open program in 1988, and continues to lead the way in the field.

Vogel delivers today’s edition of LFB as well as IMD’s popular “Leading the Family Office” open program. He is the author of the Family Philanthropy Navigator with Etienne Eichenberger, Managing Partner at WISE philanthropy advisors, and IMD Research Fellow Malgorzata Kurak.
