IMD business school for management and leadership courses

Under CIO Jim Swanson’s leadership, Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has scaled its AI strategy to transform surgery, accelerate R&D, streamline operations, and upskill its global workforce. In healthcare delivery, J&J MedTech, through a strategic partnership with Nvidia, is integrating AI and edge computing into its connected digital surgery platform. This enables secure, real-time data analysis in the operating room to support decision-making, training, and surgical precision.

FDA-cleared innovations such as MONARCH™ QUEST for robotic bronchoscopy and AI-powered tools like VELYS™ and KINCISE™ underscore J&J’s commitment to minimally invasive, intelligent procedures.

Across operations, J&J applies AI to optimize supply chains, reduce risk, speed up drug discovery, and improve trial matching with diverse patient representation. The company has also embedded AI in clinical tools for electrophysiology and orthopedic planning. To support enterprise transformation, J&J launched its AI-driven talent platform, J&J Learn, and provided GenAI training to over 56,000 employees alongside digital boot camps for 14,000 more. These initiatives align with a broader shift to build a workforce fluent in both core functions and digital capabilities.

J&J grounds its AI initiatives in ethics, guided by principles of fairness, privacy, security, responsibility, and transparency, ensuring that innovation is both effective and trustworthy.
