|Speaker(s)||Daniel Gasteiger, Founder and CEO of Procivis AG|
Founder and Chief Executive Officer Procivis AG
A former financial services professional of more than 20 years, Daniel Gasteiger has decided to trade a successful career in banking for his entrepreneurial pursuits in the field of blockchain. He’s the founder and CEO of e-government specialist Procivis, the initiator of the world’s largest blockchain hub, Trust Square, and co-founder of M&A advisory boutique Verum Capital. Daniel is a widely acknowledged blockchain expert and regularly speaks about technology’s impact on society and business.
Before becoming one of Switzerland’s most prolific blockchain entrepreneurs, Daniel has worked in financial services for more than 20 years. Starting out as an FX trader at Credit Suisse, he later joined UBS to work with hedge funds and third-party banks, promoting the company’s business-to-business algorithmic trading solutions and Prime Brokerage services. In his last role prior to becoming an entrepreneur, he built up and managed the UBS Chairman’s Office, holding a managing director position.
Recognising the potential of blockchain technology, Daniel decided to leave the banking world in 2015 to first found blockchain advisory company “nexussquared”. Inspired by the leading e-government infrastructure of Estonia, Daniel went on to found “Procivis AG” in 2016, a company that develops egovernment solutions secured by blockchain technology. Procivis’ eID+ technology has been implemented by the Swiss canton of Schaffhausen, making it the first Swiss canton to officially introduce an electronic identity solution for its citizens. Procivis is also developing a blockchain-based e-voting solution in collaboration with the University of Zurich and, as an extension of eID+, is working on a fully self-sovereign, integrated electronic identity and personal data management platform called “VETRI”.
In 2018, Daniel initiated and co-founded “Trust Square”, a blockchain and cyber security hub on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse, right in the heart of Switzerland’s financial centre. Trust Square has since developed into the world’s largest blockchain startup and research facility, being home to more than 40 blockchain and cyber security startups, and offering more than 3,500 m2 of office space.
Daniel’s most recent venture is “Verum Capital AG”, a boutique M&A advisory firm in the field of blockchain, which he co-founded in May 2018. Verum has acted as an advisor for the first security token offering conducted by a fully regulated financial services company globally and has since become a leading advisory firm for incumbent players in the banking industry.
Daniel is a founding board member of the Global Blockchain Business Council, a founding member of the expert council of the Switzerland Blockchain Federation and holds various other national and international blockchain advisory mandates.
Daniel has spoken on the topic of blockchain’s impact on society and business at more than 80 conferences and industry events as well as at a dozen universities and business schools across the globe, and his TEDx talk “Blockchain demystified” has been widely shared.
Daniel is a Swiss and Italian national and studied banking at Business School Solothurn and IT business engineering at AKAD Zurich.
