IMD cases recognized in The Case Centre Awards and Competitions

Faculty members were honored across finance, operations, and strategy categories, highlighting the global relevance and teaching impact of IMD’s case portfolio.

Three IMD-authored cases have been recognized at The Case Centre Awards and Competitions 2026.

IMD elea Professor of Social Innovation Vanina Farber and IMD elea Center for Social Innovation senior fellow Maria Helena Jaén’s case, Finance for a sustainable society at Triodos Investment Management: An ESG portfolio investment decision, won in the Finance, Accounting and Control category.

In this case study, students must act as research analyst candidates at Triodos Investment Management by conducting an ESG-based investment analysis of Yamaha, Tesla, and Philip Morris International, assessing their value propositions and positive and negative impacts on people and the planet.

Written by IMD Professor of Strategy and Supply Chain Management Carlos Cordon and Nick Georgiev, Apple’s supply chain transformation was selected as the winner in the Production and Operations Management category.

This case examines how Apple responded to severe supply chain disruptions in 2022 and the risks they posed to production, sales, and profitability. It explores Apple’s strategic choices around transforming its global value chain, particularly whether to deepen vertical integration or diversify its supplier base to improve resilience.

The Outstanding Case Writer competition award went to Has Nike lost its stride?, written by IMD Term Research Professor Ivy Buche and dentsu Group Professor of Strategy and Marketing Goutam Challagalla.

The case explores Nike’s decline after its shift to direct-to-consumer failed to offset lost wholesale sales amid rising competition. It explores how Nike’s leadership could engineer a turnaround by rethinking strategy and leveraging its core strengths in brand and innovation.
