IMD EMBA valedictorian takes a lead role at A.P. Møller – Mærsk

Claus V. Hemmingsen was named CEO of the Group’s Energy division

IMD EMBA Alumnus and 2007 class valedictorian Claus V. Hemmingsen - IMD Business School has recently been appointed Group Vice CEO of A.P. Møller – Mærsk and CEO for its energy division.

Hemmingsen joined the Maersk Group in 1981 as a shipping trainee and after having completed his shipping education, he joined Maersk Drilling’s Human Resource Department.

After being stationed in Hong Kong for Maersk Line (1992-1997) and in Singapore (1997-2000), Hemmingsen returned to Hong Kong in 2000 where as Managing Director he had the overall responsibility for Maersk’s activities in the Hong Kong SAR.

In 2003, Hemmingsen returned to the head office in Copenhagen as Senior Vice President responsible for the container activities’ Global Service Delivery, including Global Shared Service Centres. He simultaneously held responsibility for APM Terminals until June 2004, before taking over responsibility for Maersk Drilling and Maersk Supply Service in 2005, for SVITZER A/S in 2008 and for Maersk Tankers in 2012. From January 2014 to October 2016, Mr Hemmingsen’s role focused on being CEO for Maersk Drilling and member of the Group Executive Board.

Hemmingsen completed the IMD Executive MBA program in 2007 and was named the cohort’s Valedictorian that year.

A.P. Møller – Mærsk has made several other changes to the group’s executive management following the decision to separate its businesses into two independent divisions, Transport & Logistics and Energy.

A.P. Møller – Mærsk has a long history of working with IMD. In 2008 IMD opened the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Center dedicated to the group.
