IMD Startup Competition 2018/2019 Special Edition

Innovative companies to work with IMD’s EMBAs

IMD is pleased to announce the winners of the IMD Startup Competition 2018/19 Special Edition, who will begin work with our Executive MBA participants in November, and accompany them to Silicon Valley in February. Typically, our search for candidates starts in October, but with the growth of the IMD EMBA class we are thus able to offer more support to Swiss startups. We are pleased to add these ventures to the almost 400 which have worked with IMD through the IMD Startup Competition, founded in 1998. 


Yacine Felk –

ARCATrust is a cyber-security company which aims to provide a secure environment for multi-applications execution in the form of a physically enterprise-grade server appliance. It uses Blockchain applications that require a secure wallet system for crypto-assets management. 

Aeler Technologies 

Naik Londono –

AELER creates the 21st-century intermodal container; lighter, stronger and embedded with state-of-the-art electronics and sensors. Through this tool, we will reduce operating costs, increase security & safety, reduce fuel consumption & related emissions, and enable IoT traceability and visibility services at the level of the container.        

IDUN Technologies 

Séverine Chardonnens –

IDUN Technologies is a biosensor company, developing and producing soft and dry conductive electrodes for biopotential monitoring (ECG, EEG, EMG). With a patented surface structure, these electrodes provide high quality signals with skin-friendly materials without electrolyte gel. 


Rolf Adelsberger –

Sensoryx develops the first mobile motion-capture glove for AR and VR. With multiple sensors per hand and integrated tracking, the system enables users to interact intuitively with virtual content anywhere and anytime.  

Touchless Automation       

Maurizio Migliore –

Touchless Automation invented a tool able to manipulate components (any material) without touching them. This tool solves a wide range of contact-induced issues such as contamination, scratching or adhesion. 


Marcos Monteiro –

Veezoo’s Enterprise Artificial Intelligence semantically understands structured data and gets you the answer you need in seconds, just like in a conversation. Our mission is to democratize data-driven decisions; doing for corporates what Google did for the internet, organizing the information and making it accessible and useful.

The following 12 ventures were winners of the 2017/2018 IMD Startup Competition, and have begun their work with IMD’s current EMBA classes. They will join the EMBAs in Silicon Valley this September.

Biognosys provides next-generation proteomics tools and services to the Biotech/Pharma R&D market, that enable researchers to better understand their biological systems and to accelerate the development of drugs and life-science products

Biovotion is a digital health company providing 24/7 and mobile medical-grade physiology data and relevant insights to medical and non-medical markets

Samuel Zuercher

certus molecular diagnostics has created a highly reliable method for the on-site detection of pathogens such as herpes or influenza virus within only 30 minutes.


Boris Manhart –

CodeCheck supports consumers buying food and personal care products with an app that rates products based on the latest scientific research and proposes the most suitable alternative recommendations.


Alexander Kvasov & Tomas Sluka –

CREAL3D is a startup developing light field display for Virtual and Mixed reality glasses.


Eugenia Balysheva, Bruno Sanguinetti & Christoph Clausen –

Dotphoton products unlock the true potential of RAW images for AI and cloud applications by reducing RAW image sizes by up to 10 times with quality retention guaranteed


Zhenzhong Su & Lukas Meier –

Fixposition develops a reliable high-precision navigation and localization solution for autonomous systems based on machine vision enhanced satellite navigation. 


Christopher McCall –

A unique tethered UAV platform for public safety, broadcast, and sports, which are fundamentally safer to use, fly for hours, and are more accountable than traditional drone systems. 


Javier Bello Ruiz –

Imverse is a spin-off from EPFL, which develops software and provides services for photorealistic Mixed Reality content creation. Our volumetric solutions reduce the time and money spent on the production of interactive experiences by a factor of 10.


Michael Geiselmann & Michael Zervas –

LIGENTEC offers wafer scale fabrication of silicon nitride photonic integrated circuits (PIC) for applications in telecom/datacom, quantum optics, optical (bio-) sensing.


Pierrick Poulenas –

Picterra develops the first AIaaS (Artificial Intelligence as a Service) enabling users to generate customized geo-information from satellite and drone imagery


Dr. Alejandro Ojeda –

UrbanAlps, inventors of the Stealth Key – the world’s first 3D metal printed security key.


These companies, also winners of the 2017/2018 IMD Startup Competition, collaborated with IMD’s fulltime MBA this past Spring.

Development and distribution of highly innovative hand-held devices for measuring protective coatings in the construction industry.

Adriano Garonna

EBA-Med develops innovative solutions for non-invasive and automated treatment of heart arrhythmias by using proton beams (external beam ablation).


Aurélien Demaurex –

ecoRobotix develops autonomous weeding robots to drastically reduce or even suppress herbicides in a large variety of crops, resulting in lower weeding costs and more benefits for human health and the environment.


Hadrien Michaud –

Feeltronix provides a complete solution to design and manufacture “in-rubber” electronic circuits and connectors for the next generation of wearables.


Matthew Costello –

FIXtech is a communications platform allowing the bulk commodity shipping industry to cut deals faster and run operations more efficiently.


Salvatore De Benedictis & Ross Fleming –

Komp-Act: Cost effective electric actuation technologies. 


Aike Festini –

LuckaBox is a delivery service aggregation web platform that enables retailers in Switzerland and Europe to provide their e-commerce customers with quick and precise deliveries.
