IMD MBA Class of ’76 giving back in the most impactful way

A scholarship for an exceptional candidate who wants to change the world and benefit from the transformational learning experience offered by the IMD MBA program
March 2018

Every year at IMD, 90 promising young business leaders come together, are taken to their limits and come out ready to take on the world. The MBAs also make friends for life during their intense year-long journey.

The class of 1976 is no exception and has decided to pay tribute to their friendship, life-changing experience at IMD, and to future leaders. A group of members of the class of ’76, who has stayed in close touch over the years, has decided to come together to create the IMD MBA Class of 1976 Merit Scholarship. The first round of funding will go to a promising candidate selected to join the class of 2019 and will contribute CHF 50,000 towards tuition.

The scholarship will be merit-based and will be awarded to a member of the incoming class immediately following the selection process from the April 1st deadline.

Accomplished alumni supporters

“The IMD MBA was a life changing experience for so many of us and I directly attribute my business success to the IMD MBA experience,” says Woods Staton,  MBA 1976, (CEO and Chairman of the Board of Arcos Dorados, the company that owns and runs the McDonalds chains across South America), who together with classmates created this scholarship. “I am not the only one who attributes my success to IMD” he adds.

John Gallagher (MBA 1976), Vice President at Buckman, Buckman and Reid Inc., a leading investment banking and capital placement firm, reflected on his time at IMD: “I would not have been prepared for the world of finance that I was entering, had it not been for IMD.” This scholarship will give outstanding individuals with the right mind-set the same opportunity that he and his classmates had to prepare themselves to make the world a better place.

Rob Frost, Head of Business Risk at Marsh Limited, says, “IMD transformed my outlook and goals; the relationships created in Lausanne were the drivers for my first significant change in career and have remained a valuable part of my personal and business life.”

Supporting diversity and enabling tomorrows leaders

The class believes the scholarship will increase diversity and hence further enrich the IMD MBA experience.

IMD is grateful to the MBA class of 76 for their generous initiative that will attract and motivate candidates for the April 1st admissions deadline, and make a significant impact on the winner.
