In memory of Mario Marconi

September 2022

It is with great sadness that we share the tragic news that IMD Alumnus, Executive in Residence and family office expert Mario Marconi has passed away after a short illness.

Mario, a senior advisor and partner at the Cambridge Family Enterprise Group, was a much loved and greatly appreciated member of the IMD community, who worked closely with the IMD Global Family Business Center to help families foster long-term prosperity and healthy ecosystems in an ever-challenging environment.

A former UBS private bank executive and IMD MBA (1996), Mario was deeply passionate about recognizing and exploring the wider purpose and value of family wealth, beyond the limited scope of financial capital and including areas such as a social impact and human development. He brought decades of experience and expertise to his work, as well as a mischievous wit, and was held in high esteem by clients and colleagues alike.

“A true expert in his field, Mario was a wonderful colleague and an inspiring friend who always made a warm and lasting impression on everyone he worked and connected with,” said Professor Peter Vogel, Director of the IMD Global Family Business Center. “We send our love and thoughts to his family at this very difficult time, and we will remember Mario with personal fondness and great professional respect.”

Mario had been working on a book with Professor Vogel, called the Family Office Navigator – a project that will continue in his memory.

IMD President Jean-François Manzoni said: “I am deeply saddened by Mario’s passing away so young and so unexpectedly. Mario was a real gentleman, a genuine expert in his field, and a much loved member of our community. On behalf of all of us at IMD, I offer my deepest sympathies to his loved ones.”
