Aurel Bacs-Phillips, World leading watch auctioneer
In keeping with the times the next event, where you will be able to join fellow Alumni Club members and our Alumni community, will be virtual and will be led by Aurel Bacs.
With 25 years of professional experience in the field of collectors' watches, Aurel Bacs is an internationally recognized leading specialist in the watch market. He has achieved more auction records than any other auctioneer in recent years, be it for individual watches or for entire collections. Mr Bacs’ career spans Sotheby’s, Phillips, de Pury & Luxembourg, Christie’s and Phillips. As Head of the International Watch Department at Christie’s he oversaw unprecedented growth, raising the department's annual turnover to over US $ 130 million. Today under Mr Bacs’ leadership, the auction house Phillips has established numerous world records, including the highest price ever achieved for a vintage Rolex wristwatch: the Rolex Paul Newman Daytona and the highest price ever achieved for a vintage Patek Philippe watch: a Patek Philippe reference 1518 in stainless steel. In the recent years, Mr Bacs served as the president of the jury of the prestigious GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève) and is a permanent member of the cultural council of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie.
