Each IMD Executive MBA class goes on three “Discovery Expeditions” to key global business hubs. Guided by passionate faculty, local experts, and hands-on learning, we study the economy, but also the country and society. We see life as it is, in companies, as well as in the cultural, economic and political context in which they operate. But these are not exercises in industrial tourism – the objective of each Discovery Expedition is to help participants rapidly absorb a large amount of information and experience in the wider world and the global business environment, and to translate those learnings to their own companies and work context.
The participants, with an average age of 40 and 15+ years of international business experience, learn as much from each other’s experience and insights as they do from the faculty, experts, speakers, visits, projects and immersion into key global business markets.
This March, Professors Anand Narasimhan and Jay Narayanan will lead the class in Mumbai – India’s most populous city – a vibrant metropolis of contrast and extremes where we seek to better their understanding of how global corporations are changing. Our methodology is through experience and discovering through a variety of different approaches such as lectures, case studies, company analysis and visits, interviews and a team assignment.
“Top speakers, very interesting country and people. Complex but fascinating environment, and great organization,” says one 2016 EMBA alumni summing up the general appraisal of the EMBA Discovery Expeditions. “The combination of the Indian environment and the application of the quests is very usable, partial and interesting learning.”
On March 8 the class will join a panel about “Multinationals doing business in India” with a concluding note from IMD President and Professor Jean-Francois Manzoni.
This event is also open to prospective EMBA candidates and those looking to discover more about IMD, who can register here.
“I really enjoyed the Discovery Expedition thanks to the diversity of companies we visited, the level and diversity of the speakers and to be able to link the team assignment with a specific company that we could visit. IMD has a very strong network in India which strongly benefits the whole expedition,” say alumni.
During the week, the class will also meet with the Alumni Club of India for an evening of networking and learning. The club, run by president Harsh Goenka, Chairman of RPG ENTERPRISES and himself an alumnus of the IMD EMBA, seeks to encourage fellowship among Indian Alumni and knowledge sharing as part of a continuing education.
