Accelerating Responsible Reconstruction Initiative
Driving responsible and inclusive recovery
IMD’s Accelerating Responsible Reconstruction Initiative explores how the private sector and government can drive responsible and inclusive recovery in post-conflict and post-disaster contexts. The Initiative combines rigorous research, executive education, and direct engagement with policymakers and firms on the frontlines of reconstruction.
With Ukraine as its immediate focus, the Initiative draws on comparative case studies from Serbia and Northern Ireland to produce actionable frameworks for governments, investors, and business leaders navigating the complexity of responsible reconstruction. Over time, the Initiative will extend its work to other countries facing similar challenges.
The Initiative serves as both a platform and a forum, producing research, convening stakeholders, and developing the next generation of leaders equipped to act responsibly in fragile and transitional economies.
This report examines how countries emerging from conflict can rebuild their economies in a responsible and inclusive way. Using Serbia and Northern Ireland as comparative case studies, the analysis identifies the institutional, social and economic conditions that shape successful reconstruction. Building on these lessons, the report proposes a Responsible Reconstruction Framework and applies it to Ukraine’s current post-war recovery needs across key sectors.
