| Vita | Michael Yaziji is Professor of Strategy and Organizations at IMD. He teaches in the areas of strategy, nonmarket strategy, stakeholder management, ethics and change management. His current research focuses on relationships among corporations, NGOs, and government. His most recent publications include an article on capitalism in Harvard Business Review (2008) as well as the book NGOs and Corporations, published by Cambridge University Press (2009). He is also especially interested in the challenges and opportunities in the environmental space. Professor Yaziji spearheaded the creation of the partnership between WWF, the world's leading environmental organization, and IMD. This partnership supports the design and delivery of the One Planet Leaders program. OPL focuses on creating the world's best change agents for sustainability. OPL is both an open-enrollment program for individuals and a bespoke in-company program. For more information see OPL program page. Professor Yaziji consults for Fortune 100 corporations (e.g., Microsoft, Hydro, Shell, Grundfos, Maersk, Bunge Alimentos, Holcim), SMEs and NGOs in the areas of strategy formulation, strategy implementation, nonmarket strategies, public-private partnerships, organizational values and stakeholder management. He has been a keynote speaker at various think-tanks including L'Institut Français des Relations Internationals and The Copenhagen Center. He is a visiting fellow at INSEAD, a member of the World Economic Forum Roundtable on Public-Private Partnerships in Health, and serves on the board of the International Schools of Business Management. Professor Yaziji drove the initiative to make IMD the first and only top tier business school in the world to be carbon neutral. He was the founding director of the Business and Society Forum while at INSEAD. Professor Yaziji's educational background includes a PhD in Management and Strategy from INSEAD (2004) and a Ph.D. in Analytic Philosophy from the University of California (1995). His doctoral research in analytic philosophy focused on the epistemological and ontological status of ethics. His INSEAD management dissertation research focused on NGO campaigns against corporations. It was based on the largest global survey of campaigning NGOs. The research provided insights into the goals, tactics, target selection criteria, dynamic interactions, and effects of these campaigns against corporations. An American national, Professor Yaziji has spent the majority of his life overseas in Italy, France, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland. |
