Experience & Background

Xavier Coll is a senior HR professional with over 35 years’ leadership experience in multilateral banking and financial institutions. He holds a medical degree from Barcelona University, an MPH from the Johns Hopkins University, and an MBA from the University of Chicago, where he was a Fulbright fellow. He is also a certified executive coach and a recent graduate of INSEAD´s International Directors Program.

Coll started his professional career at the World Bank in Washington DC where, after several management responsibilities in the projects/lending sector, he held the position of the President’s Chief of Staff and subsequently HR VP. Following his tenure at the World Bank, he was appointed Director of HR at the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg. From 2008 until August 2022, he held the position of Managing Director of HR at CaixaBank.

During his tenure at CaixaBank, he was a member of the executive committee, actively participated in the acquisition and integration processes of six banks (including most recently, the merger with Bankia, one of the largest European banking sector acquisitions in history), and strengthened CaixaBank´s HR functions and systems.

Coll splits his life between the South of France and the United States. He has developed an executive coaching career and is a fellow and moderator of the Aspen Institute España.

Expertise & Interests

Coll’s interest and expertise is HR with a particular focus on leadership development. At this stage of his career, his main objective is to help organizations maximize the potential of their management teams and identify and nurture ascendent leadership talent. He has a commitment to bringing current academic learnings to the day-to-day practice of HR.
