One impact of COVID-19 has been a widespread acceleration of digital transformation. However, in an attempt to quickly respond to the pandemic and create value in new ways, important aspects of digital ethics and sustainability have been short-changed, such as cybersecurity, ethical data and A.I. practices, digital diversity and inclusion, and the impact of digital practices on the physical environment.

This situation has created a number of important tensions that need to be resolved, such as whether to be reactive or proactive, or if it’s better to take a centralized or decentralized approach to governance. In this session, Professors Isik and Wade will explore these tensions and provide recommendations on how to address them.

They will define the relevant aspects of digital ethics and sustainability for organizations, provide examples of how they are being managed, and suggest strategies to deal with them more effectively. The concept of Corporate Digital Responsibility will be introduced to reframe the discussion from compliance and risk mitigation to using responsible digital practices as a source of competitive advantage.
