New book unveils the keys to surviving digital transformation

The Center for Digital Business Transformation releases new book “Digital Vortex”
July 2016

The Center for Digital Business Transformation, an IMD and Cisco initiative, announces a new book that aims to help business leaders and their organizations more effectively navigate the challenges and opportunities of digital disruption.

Titled “Digital Vortex: How Today’s Market Leaders Can Beat Disruptive Competitors at Their Own Game” the book highlights how start-ups and tech-savvy disruptors attack industries, and spells out how traditional companies should respond.

Digital disruption may sound like another business buzzword—but in months instead of years, companies are going from market leaders to has-beens as customers bolt for the door and revenues stall. In response to disruption, senior executives are turning to yesterday’s management playbook, or worse, ignoring the issue.

As “Digital Vortex” uncovers, the reality is that this scenario is beginning to play out in every industry. Everything that can be digitized—from products and services to entire value chains—is being digitized, to the advantage of companies that can harness disruption. Few companies are building the organizational capabilities and strategic responses to compete in this stark new reality.

Written as a practical guidebook for understanding and outsmarting disruptors, this book shows how organizations can use the business models and strategies of start-ups to their own advantage. Instead of waiting to be disrupted, it is possible for companies to maximize the value of their existing businesses and move into profitable new ones. Most importantly, “Digital Vortex” outlines how to build the agility to anticipate threats, sense opportunities, and seize them before rivals do.

Written based on research with thousands of senior executives, from market leaders to start-ups, the book is authored by a dynamic team that brings together the best from academia and business. The four authors are IMD Professor Michael Wade, Director of the Center for Digital Business Transformation, Jeff Loucks, James Macaulay, and Andy Noronha, Directors with the Cisco Digitization Office and visiting scholars with the Center for Digital Business Transformation.

The book is available on Amazon here.
