Öykü Işık elected as Digital Shaper 2021 by BILANZ and Digital Switzerland

September 2021

Öykü Işık, Professor of Digital Strategy & Cybersecurity at IMD, has been elected one of the top 100 Digital Shapers 2021 in Switzerland in recognition of her contribution in the areas of cybersecurity, digital ethics and digital resilience. She joins Mike Wade who’s been inducted into the Digital Shapers Hall of Fame and has been on the list for the last four years.

Ișik is featured in a special joint publication released today by BILANZ, HandelsZeitung and PME Magazine which aims to profile the most influential thinkers in the digital space and invite them to promote digitalization in Switzerland.

“At IMD, we strive for international impact, but our Swiss roots are never forgotten. Being recognized by these influential Swiss media outlets gives me the opportunity to be closer to home and have a wider reach within Switzerland,” says Ișik.

She is featured in the category “The Cybersecurity Guards” which highlights her work in helping companies build their digital resilience by doing drills to prepare for a Ransomware attack. Another focus of her research is the ethics around ‘Big data’ and how companies should be transparent with customers about how they use their data.

Ișik is particularly keen to support individuals and teams as they embark on digital transformation initiatives in navigating the areas of digital ethics and cybersecurity.

“Digital transformation is greater than the sum of its parts,” she says. “The potential value it brings may be spectacular, but its implications are more far reaching than most think. That is why we cannot ignore societal, ethical and security implications of our digital transformations.”

A computer scientist by training, Ișik joined IMD in 2020 after a decade spent at the Vlerick Business School in Ghent, Belgium, where she worked as an Assistant Professor of Information Systems Management. She had also held positions at the University of North Texas and Istanbul Bilgi University, where she taught information systems courses.

Her published work encompasses the topics of business intelligence and analytics, technology management and business process management.
