Alumni for Entrepreneurship tackles connected farming at event in London

The latest event in the Founder’s Files Series, held with the IMD UK Alumni Club
March 2019

As part of the Founder’s Files Series, a series of talks by prominent startup founders, organized by the IMD United Kingdom Alumni Community for Entrepreneurship with the IMD UK Alumni Club, Ben Scott-Robinson, Founder of the Small Robot Company, recently addressed a crowd of entrepreneurs and business leaders in London.

The Small Robot Company, founded in 2017, has three models of robots: Tom, Dick and Harry, and is transforming the agri-food tech industry.

By caring for every plant individually, The Small Robot Company’s robots only feed and spray those that need it by closely monitoring their needs. They also tread lightly on agricultural grounds and don’t damage the structure or fertility of the soil. This promising trio has the potential to boost farmers’ revenues by 40% and cut costs by 60%, according to Scott-Robinson.

A dynamic group of alumni attended the event and discussed the company’s scalability, use of data and digitization of agriculture, pricing models, and more. Several executives from the agriculture and food processing industries in attendance commented on how the company and its robots will contribute to a more sustainable farming future.

ACE London opened in 2017 and kicked off the Founder’s Files Series at the same time. Since then the series has featured a number of prominent entrepreneurs.

“London is a leading global city and given that it has everything to offer, we wanted to take advantage of that and reflect this in Founder Files Series, by selecting interesting leaders from startups in exciting industries,” says Patricio Hidalgo, who is a committee member at the IMD UK Alumni Club and was a participant in IMD’s Program for Executive Development (PED) in 2009.
