Sony strengthened its AI leadership by promoting Peter Stone to Chief Scientist of Sony AI and Deputy President, tasking him with guiding key AI projects. In June 2024, Sony expanded its AI R&D footprint by launching the Sony AI Barcelona Laboratory, its fourth global AI research hub. The laboratory will focus on the organization’s newest flagship project, Scientific Discovery, and other AI initiatives, underscoring the company’s commitment to new AI-driven business ventures and research functions in support of creators. 

On the technology front, Sony has embedded AI into products and services. Its semiconductor division launched an edge AI camera with on-sensor processing, and Sony Interactive Entertainment rolled out the Gran Turismo Sophy™ AI agent to enhance gameplay on PlayStation. Crucially, Sony pairs innovation with responsibility: it has robust AI governance frameworks, an AI Ethics Committee, and initiatives to ensure ethical, inclusive AI.
