New digital technologies, such as generative AI and the Industrial Internet of Things are expected to transform not only how Saudi Aramco works but also its commercial environment according to Saudi Aramco’s Ahmad Al-Khowaiter, EVP of Technology & Innovation. Key AI initiatives include Ariva, an AI avatar that provides real-time technical solutions, optimizing drilling speeds and production strategies based on extensive historical data. In exploration, AI-powered seismic robots analyze geological formations, reducing the need for manual exploration and enhancing the precision of resource identification. Aramco also developed its own generative AI LLM- Aramco Metabrain- to optimize production and predict outcomes based on nine decades of data. Aramco’s AI applications extend to infrastructure management, utilizing AI for predictive maintenance and monitoring thousands of miles of pipelines to detect potential issues. Aramco announced the deployment of an AI supercomputer, one of the first systems of its kind in the region to analyze drilling plans and geological data. It has also collaborated with Qualcomm Technologies on the initial deployment of industrial generative AI solutions on the edge to enhance facility monitoring and the use of autonomous drones.
