CEO Arvind Krishna stated that IBM’s strategy “builds upon the two technological foundations of AI and hybrid cloud,” reorienting IBM’s portfolio around AI-based solutions. In mid-2025, IBM hired a former US DoD AI chief, Radha Iyengar Plumb, for a new executive role to lead an AI-first transformation across IBM’s businesses. 

The company launched the watsonx® AI platform (AI, data, governance), open-sourced the Granite model family, and introduced AI-assisted products like Code Assistant for Z™ and watsonx Assistant™. 

Strategic acquisitions and partnerships, including Neural Magic, AWS, Microsoft, Adobe, SAP, and Meta, expanded AI integration and deployment. IBM reinforced ethical AI via an internal AI Ethics Board, published principles, and watsonx governance for risk management.
