CATL has significantly scaled practical AI across R&D, manufacturing, and energy-storage products. In R&D, machine learning and AI are leveraged to accelerate materials discovery and next-generation battery research. On manufacturing and operations, multiple CATL plants (including Liyang and Ningde) were recognized for Industry-4.0 excellence after deploying digital-twin, image-recognition, and AI energy management solutions that improved plant efficiency and lowered emissions.  

In April 2025, CATL launched TENER SmartStorage™, an AI-powered platform (IoT + blockchain + AI hybrid algorithms) with virtual CT diagnostics and a 24/7 AI assistant “Xiao Heng” for predictive O&M. CATL also invested in research partnerships and hiring to build AI capabilities (HKUST partnership, AI researcher roles).
