Alphabet has reinforced its AI-first strategy under CEO Sundar Pichai, merging Google Brain and its Gemini AI app team into Google DeepMind in 2024 and appointing a Chief AI Architect in 2025. It launched the 7th-gen TPU (Ironwood) to power next-gen models and introduced Gemini 2.0, enhancing reasoning and multimodality. Generative AI features have been integrated across Google products like Search and Maps, while internal AI use drives efficiency – over 25% of new code is machine-generated.
The 2024 Responsible AI Progress Report details Alphabet’s governance structure for AI, describing how it maps, measures, and manages AI risks throughout development. Alphabet also co-founded the Frontier Model Forum with industry peers to promote safe development of advanced AI, collectively pledging $10m toward AI safety research. Google also introduced the Secure AI Framework (SAIF) – a set of best practices for secure and responsible AI systems – and joined the C2PA coalition to advance content provenance standards.
