IMD business school for management and leadership courses

IBM’s AI strategy builds on its rich legacy of innovation. From Deep Blue defeating chess champion Garry Kasparov in 1997 to Watson’s triumph on Jeopardy! in 2011, IBM has consistently pioneered AI technologies. These milestones were not just for show; they laid the groundwork for AI’s practical applications in areas such as cancer treatment and retail optimization. More recently, IBM developed Vela, an AI-optimized, cloud-native supercomputer.

Today, IBM’s AI and cloud strategy focuses on advancing enterprise solutions. Its IBM Cloud, equipped with a sizable GPU farm and new AI inferencing processors, plays a critical role. IBM’s strategy centers on a library of tested and optimized foundation models, delivered through its watsonx platform, which helps businesses operationalize AI.

IBM places a strong emphasis on trust, transparency, and governance. As CEO Arvind Krishna notes, “AI will transform industries, but only if deployed with trust and responsibility at its core.” The models’ training data is filtered to address privacy, bias, and objectionable content concerns. In line with advancing trusted AI, IBM confounded the AI Alliance alongside Meta, promoting open innovation, safety, and security across the AI landscape.
