Vita

Stéphane Girod is Professor of Strategy at IMD. His research, executive development and consulting interest is the formulation and execution of strategy to restore or enhance firms' competitiveness in complex, digital and (de)globalizing environments. He focuses on helping clients in emerging and developed markets to develop the systemic capabilities necessary to achieve higher levels of competitiveness.

Professor Girod's research currently focuses on how to create competitive-ready businesses, the international competitiveness of emerging-market companies, how to unlock value from reorganizations, and business model innovation in the digital age. His sectoral expertise is in pharmaceuticals, banking, telecoms, retail, and luxury goods. His research has appeared in leading scientific journals such as Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal and Long Range Planning, as well as in executive-friendly publications such as China Daily, the Journal of Business Strategy, European Business Review and The Times.

Prior to joining IMD, Professor Girod was an Assistant Professor of Strategy and International Business at the Henley Business School where he designed innovative sessions in strategy, competitive-readiness and business model innovation in a wide range of open and custom executive programs in the U.K., Denmark, South Africa, the U.A.E and Hong Kong. He also was a Research Fellow in Strategy and Organization of the Accenture Institute for High Performance, based in London. His projects included international operating model design and Futures of Enterprise IT. Prior to his doctoral studies, Professor Girod occupied several international development roles for markets such as France, Italy and the Middle-East in leading luxury goods companies.

Professor Girod speaks seven languages. He earned a DPhil from the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, an MBA from the Helsinki School of Economics (Aalto University) and an MSc from Toulouse Business School. He was also a visiting scholar at Indiana University.
