Arturo Bris

Arturo Bris is Professor of Finance at IMD. Since January 2014 he is also leading the world-renowned IMD World Competitiveness Center.

He has directed programs for senior executives in several industries and continents. Prior to joining IMD, Professor Bris was the Robert B & Candice J. Haas Associate Professor of Corporate Finance at the Yale School of Management (USA). A Research Associate of the European Corporate Governance Institute, and a member of the Yale International Institute for Corporate Governance, he has worked extensively on issues of Corporate Governance, Financial Regulation, and International Valuation.

Arturo is passionate about global competitiveness, financial development and macroeconomics. His latest research identifies the relationship between income inequality, social mobility and competitiveness. He is also developing a competitiveness-based investment portfolio that track the best and worst economies.

Christos Cabolis is the Chief Economist and Head of Operations at the IMD World
Competitiveness Center.

He joined IMD from ALBA Graduate Business School at The American College of Greece where he was an Associate Professor of Economics and Finance. Prior to ALBA he was the Executive Director of the International Center for Finance at Yale School of Management. From 1997-2002 he was a lecturer of Economics at Yale University where he also served as the Dean ofJonathan Edwards College. Christos has also taught at the University of California at SantaBarbara and at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School where he was aVisiting Associate Professor of Finance in 2010-11.

His teaching focuses on courses related to Business Economics, Macroeconomics, Corporate Finance, Financial Management and Industrial Organization.
A Research Fellow at the International Center for Finance at the Yale School of Management, his research focuses on issues related to mergers, the valuation of changes in corporate governance, as well as measuring market power. Currently he works in topics related to the effects of rating agencies’ valuations, the interplay between competition and specialization in venture capital firms, as well as the optimum size of banks.

He has published in the Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Law and Economics and Journal of Banking and Finance among others. Christos has been awarded grants by the BSI Gamma Foundation and the Sloan Foundation for his research. He is also the recipient of the Inaugural “Jaime Fernandez de Araoz” Award in Corporate Finance.

Christos holds a BA from the University of Athens, an MA from the California State University, Long Beach, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Dr José Caballero is a Senior Economist at the IMD World Competitiveness Center. He is responsible for the Center’s different research projects and leads the research team in the development and implementation of new models for the assessment of competitiveness. José identifies relevant aspects of competitiveness and determines ways to incorporate them in the Center’s research agenda and portfolio.

His research interests focus on the sources of the competitiveness of countries and, more specifically, on the competitiveness of enterprises. He is particularly interested in practices and processes that strengthen the competitiveness of firms which ultimately lead to the achievement of long term value creation. José is keen on understanding how social asymmetries impact value creation. He is passionate about identifying the means to ameliorate those asymmetries while furthering competitiveness.

José has conducted research at the International Institute for Corporate Governance (Yale School of Management) and the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER, USA). In addition, he has acted as an academic advisor to the World Justice Project in the development of the Rule of Law Index. José has also worked as a consultant for the European Union Support Program for Central American Integration, the Private Sector Advisory Department at the World Bank, the International Investment Corporation (World Bank), and the Inter-American Development Bank.
José has taught at the University of Warwick (UK) and the University of the West of England (Bristol, UK). He holds a PhD (Politics and International Studies) from the University of Warwick and an MA (Social Science: Government) from Harvard University.

Maëlle Desard is a Marketing Specialist at the IMD World Competitiveness Center. She is a trained designer and has developed and managed digital marketing campaigns for different products across all digital channels.

She's in charge of developing and supervising marketing activities to promote the Center researches, services and products.

Maëlle is currently completing a Bachelor Degree in Economics & Management at the Université de Montpellier (France) (expected completion June 2018)

Madeleine manages the WCC network of Partner Institutes and the collection of hard data from international, national and private sources for the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook.

She also supervises the conduction of the annual IMD Business Executives Opinion Survey and is in charge of IMD World Competitiveness Online, our database including up to 22 year time series for over 340 criteria and 63 countries.

Prior to joining the IMD World Competitiveness Center Madeleine has worked in the telecommunications and tour operator industries. She holds a CAS from the University of Geneva and speaks French, English and German.

Marco Pistis

Marco Pistis is Research Specialist at the IMD World Competitiveness Center. He is a trained economist with research experience on issues related to competitiveness, labour economics, fiscal and monetary policies. Marco is specialised in econometric modelling and data management & analysis.

Before joining IMD, Marco has been Consultant for the Better Work Programme (a joint-venture between the World Bank and the International Labour Organization (ILO)) and Junior Technical Officer in the Employment Department of the ILO in Geneva.

Marco holds a Master of Science in Economic Policy from University College London (UCL), a Master Degree in Financial Economics and a Bachelor Degree in Economics & Management from Luiss Guido Carli University (Rome, Italy).
