Skanska CS (B): An employee in handcuffs

By Daina Mazutis and Anna Eckardt

This Case is part of a series to demonstrate different ethical dilemma that employees of Skanska CS were facing after Dan Tok took over as CEO and was mandated to transform and align the practices of the Czech division to the corporate “no ethical breaches” culture. This particular Case tells the story from the perspective of the Legal Counsel of Skanska CS. While on vacation, one of Skanska’s project managers gets arrested and is shown on the television in handcuffs entering the police station. Learning objectives: To reflect on the dilemma between granting the benefit of doubt according to the legal tradition and the impact on the company’s reputation but also the effect that an “ethically” unclear situation might have on the morale of the entire organisation.
