Qatar Petroleum to strengthen the performance of boards of directors with IMD Business School

IMD Global Board Center will lead executive program for QP

As part of its efforts to effectively to develop Qatari leaders, to manage corporate governance, and to sustain growth and development, Qatar Petroleum (QP) has launched the “Qatar Petroleum High Performance Boards Program” in association with the Global Board Center of IMD.

Over the course of this year, the Qatar Petroleum High Performance Board Program will take over 100 Qatari board directors through five modules covering ethics, corporate governance, finance and risk, strategy and leadership, all tailored to the role and responsibilities of board members.

Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum expressed great pleasure at launch of the program and said “Qatar Petroleum has an exceptional track record of setting up successfully new subsidiaries and joint ventures, and one of the primary drivers for its success is its ability to effectively drive value and excellence through its boards of directors.”

Mr Al-Kaabi added: “We are excited to work with IMD and deliver this state of the art executive education program. The IMD Global Board Center has world class expertise in the field of corporate governance, and together with our joint experiences we will make this a very impactful learning journey that benefits the leaders attending it as well as the State of Qatar.”

The program will be led by Professor Didier Cossin, Director of the IMD Global Board Center and UBS Chair in Banking and Finance who said: “In recent years Qatar Petroleum has expanded and developed numerous joint ventures and partnerships with companies that generate value for the state of Qatar. QP has become a major player in the global energy market and we are pleased to have the chance to work with their boards’ directors”.

According to IMD President Dominique Turpin, “IMD is delighted and privileged to have partnered with Qatar Petroleum. IMD has strong ties to the Gulf Region and through this collaboration, IMD intends to play an important role in developing board members for Qatar Petroleum”.

Places on this exciting signature program, which will be run in Doha, have not only been extended to board members and directors of Qatar’s Oil & Gas Industry but also to other strategic entities within Qatar such as the Ministry of Finance, Qatar Foundation, Qatar Investment Authority, Qatar National Bank, and the Pension Authority.

The IMD Global Board Center supports Board Members by providing unique & pertinent resources on current boardroom issues and latest governance trends.
