IATA and IMD partner to offer the Global Innovation and Leadership Program

July 11, 2013

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and IMD have partnered to offer leadership training to senior travel and tourism executives in China. The program focuses on the latest management trends and showcases competitive business models through hands-on teaching.

IMD professor Maury Peiperl, who is co-directing the program with IMD professor Howard Yu, said: "IMD is excited to be joining with IATA to offer this innovative and collaborative program. It is a great opportunity for all involved to learn and to deepen our knowledge of the changing travel sector in China and beyond."

Ismail Albaidhani, Head of Global Partnership & Learning Innovation, IATA, said: "China is becoming the world's biggest travel and tourism market. In 2012 China became the largest spender in international tourism globally with US$102 billion, and with that comes the real challenge to develop a local workforce who can drive this change. Our work with IMD is a step in the right direction of developing a new generation of travel and tourism leaders in China."

The three-day program will take place on the IMD campus in Lausanne in two segments during July and September, when participants will have the opportunity to meet and discuss at length with IMD faculty. The curriculum has been customized to offer travel and tourism executives a strategic perspective on the current competitive situation and its dynamics. Interactive teaching methods will be used to ensure participants' continuous hands-on learning. After successful completion of the program, participants will be awarded an IATA-IMD Certificate.
