Legal Counsel

The Job’s mission

Be part of the Legal team and assist in legal affairs pertaining to the Foundation and its activities.

Key activities & accountabilities

Contracts drafting, review and negotiation, notably:

  • Contractual arrangements with partners for chair allocations, sponsoring of research activities or equivalent
  • Act as escalation point for legal questions relating to suppliers contracts management, review or drafting
  • Act as a back-up for complex contracts with corporate clients to support the dedicated legal resource
  • Prepare and maintain template agreements, and provide internal training when need be

Act as the legal point of contact for dedicated projects

  • Fundraising projects, including potential representation of the school with external parties (e.g. with high profile alumni)
  • Regulatory-driven projects (e.g. GDPR implementation project)
  • Innovation related projects (e.g. development of new pedagogical tools)

Other activities 

  • Compliance support: e.g. review of promotional literature / communications, identifying needs for policies or guidelines to support the day-to-day activities (e.g. use of material for commercial purposes), providing timely support for ad hoc queries and questions
  • IP-related matters: e.g. advise on copyright matters

Ideal profile

  • Law degree
  • Common law would be a plus
  • Admission to the bar not required
  • At least 5 years of working experience in a legal function
  • Previous experience in fund raising activities and non-for-profit / private foundations sector would be a plus
  • Full English proficiency, French desired, other language as a plus
  • Attention to details and accuracy, as well as excellent analytical skills
  • Strong drafting skills (e.g. contracts, policies, minutes, etc.)
  • Contract negotiation skills and experience
  • Team spirit and willingness to contribute to a team’s effort
  • Strong communication skills
  • Highly organized and self-reliant, with a strong sense of ownership
