Jayanth Narayanan's research and teaching interests are in the areas of decision-making, negotiations and influence. He has also conducted research to understand the biological basis of human behavior at the workplace. He has also has done some of the earliest research on understanding the role of mindfulness for leaders in organizations. He spent 10 years in Singapore as a faculty with the National University of Singapore before joining IMD.

Jay Narayanan's work has been published in journals such as Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Behavioral Decision-making and Social Psychology and Personality Science. Jay Narayanan also serves on the editorial board of Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Process, Journal of Management Inquiry and Adaptive Behavior and Human Physiology. Jay Narayanan's research has won the Best Paper award at the International Association for Conflict Management meetings. Jayanth Narayanan developed and directed a number of executive education programs such as the Negotiation and Influence Program as well as the Emerging Leaders Program. He was awarded the Departmental Teaching Excellence award at NUS.

Prior to his academic stint, Jay Narayanan was an entrepreneur in India. He got his Phd from the London Business School and a Post-graduate Diploma from XLRI Jamshedpur.
