Your program director, Michael Watkins

Michael Watkins is a professor of Leadership and Organizational Change at IMD. He has spent the last two decades working with leaders as they transition to new roles, build their teams and transform their organizations, and was ranked among the leading management thinkers globally by Thinkers50 in 2019. Author of the international bestseller The First 90 Days: Proven Strategies for Getting Up to Speed Smarter and Faster, his work remains an enduring classic reference for leaders in transition, with over one million copies sold to date.

A prolific writer, Michael is the author or co-author of eleven books and numerous articles on leadership, negotiation, and transitions. His recent publications include Onboarding Isn’t Enough, Leading the Team You Inherit, How Managers Become Leaders and Picking the Right Transition Strategy, all in the Harvard Business Review.

At IMD, Michael also directs the Transition to Business Leadership program, a four-week experience for experienced managers who are stepping up to enterprise leadership. He is also co-founder of Genesis Advisers and a former faculty at Harvard Business School and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
