In this session, Professor Watkins will explore what it takes to accelerate transitions at the individual leader, team, and organizational levels.
Transitions into new roles are challenging for leaders as they must simultaneously get up the leading curve and begin to impact their new organizations. Most leaders don’t get to build their teams from scratch; instead, they must rapidly assess the people they inherited and evolve them into the team they need to be successful.
Today, all leaders face transformational challenges and must, together with their teams, lead the effort to design the organization of the future. The implication is that most new leaders must manage transitions at multiple levels – their own, their teams’, and their organizations’ – in parallel. The capacity to understand and accelerate transitions is, therefore, a core leadership skill.
