Week 1: Identify

Identify the opportunities and risks for your organization posed by sustainability. Consider sustainability principles, and what they mean in practice. Examine real-world case studies to understand how sustainability trends can affect a business. Make contact with your coach and buddy.

Week 2: Define

Define the parameters of a sustainable business strategy. Explore how embracing sustainability can help a business become more competitive in the long run. Consider how society’s sustainability concerns affect your organization. Begin to formulate a sustainability strategy for your business.

Week 3: Focus

Focus on methods to identify and engage different stakeholders. Conduct a stakeholder assessment using the IMD Sustainability Barometer. Look at differences between internal/external and primary/secondary stakeholders. Assess options for minimizing negative impacts of your strategy.

Week 4: Discover

Discover the four different types of sustainable innovation. Support your organization in developing transformational sustainable innovations. Learn valuable lessons from a Newlight Technologies case study, by scrutinizing what was involved in marketing a new bio-based polymer technology.

Week 5: Investigate

Investigate the circular economy approach and the importance of ecosystems. Consider the impact of climate change on potential business success, and how your organization can address it. Develop strategies for mitigating risk and benefiting from business opportunities related to climate change.

Week 6: Learn

Measure the sustainability performance of an organization, product, service or process. Compare different indicators of sustainability. Learn to gauge non-quantifiable and non-financial social impacts. Complete an accurate life-cycle assessment of your organization or business unit.

Week 8: Develop

Develop the practical leadership skills and attributes you need to advocate for sustainability. Examine how best to make sustainability ideas operational in your own work context. Revisit your sustainability action plan, fine-tuning and finalizing it along with your personal coach.
