Enterprise for Society Center (E4S)
The Enterprise for Society Center (E4S) is a joint venture established by IMD and our Lausanne-based neighbors EPFL and UNIL in 2020. Our mission is to spearhead the transition to a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient economy through education, innovation, and research.
As it celebrated its third year of activity in 2022, E4S continued to grow, develop and reach out beyond its walls with new partners, projects, and initiatives as well as welcoming the second cohort to the Master of Science in Sustainable Management and Technology.
“2022 has been a year of strong growth for E4S, with many exciting new projects and a Master program reaching steady state.”
Jean-Pierre Danthine, E4S co-managing director
New partners, new projects
In 2022, E4S welcomed several new partners including the Resilience Institute supporting research on mental health, and Lombard Odier on the circular economy. E4S partnered with Romande Energie to co-develop a Regional Decarbonation observatory and with Vaudoise to support the development of the digital platform LEVO framework.
Outreach and engagement keep on growing
The centers two flagship events – Showcase 2030 and the Annual Summit – gathered hundreds of participants at IMD and EPFL respectively and featured research work on key challenges of our time. E4S also organized more than a dozen other conferences, action labs, and seminars throughout the year, on various important topics such as negative emissions, the future of work, green bonds or the true cost of food. In 2022, more than 30 research groups have been working with the support of the Center, translating insights into white papers, academic and practitioners’ papers, workshops, and featuring in media articles.
